Wrestling

Wrestling was known as a "heavy" event, since the training was very strenuous and there were no weight classes like those that exist today.

There were, however, three age categories, which broke up the field of atheletes to some degree. At the start, contestants traditionally sought control of the wrists and the neck, in an effort to set up more effective offensive maneuvers. The headlock was often combined with a simple leg trip. Underhooks and waistlocks were also used.
